We really enjoyed following John Marcelo’s Without Wash blog last year and were happy this morning to find out that he’s doing it all over again! Throughout 2011, John wore the same pair of UB101 jeans from The Unbranded Brand and monitored fading, wear and progress of the denim for the entire 12 months, taking photos of himself in the jeans each day.
John owned several pairs of raw denim in the past, but never consciously tracked the period of evolution that takes place when breaking them in. Like many others who post on fashion forums, he would provide a photo of the end result of his jeans — already broken in, washed, and faded — after several months of wear, but the element that was missing was the actual process it took for the jeans to reach that point.
For 2012, John will be wearing 3sixteen’s ST-200x (Slim Leg Black Selvedge denim). Constructed in the USA, this black selvedge denim was made in Okayama, exclusively for 3sixteen. For 2012, John wanted a pair of jeans made specifically of Japanese denim with a slim fit and minimal branding and chose the ST-200x because of quality, origins (Kuroki Mills) and price point. We’re looking forward to following the progress of these through the year.
